Why This Loaded Guacamole is a Must-Try

This isn’t just about taste; it’s about making healthy eating enjoyable. Crafting Your Perfect Batch: Ingredients and Customization

One of the best aspects of this Loaded Guacamole recipe is its adaptability. While we firmly believe it’s absolutely perfect as written, you have the freedom to tailor it to your personal preference. The beauty of a mixed dip is that adjustments are simple and forgiving. After all the ingredients are combined, a quick taste test is all it takes to fine-tune it to your liking.

Ingredients for Freshness and Flavor:

  • Avocados: Approximately 10 oz of peeled and pitted avocados (typically 2 medium-sized avocados). Look for avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure, indicating ripeness.
  • Fresh Lime Juice: 1 tablespoon. This is crucial not only for its bright, tangy flavor but also for helping to keep your guacamole from browning too quickly.
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon. Essential for enhancing all the other flavors.
  • Ground Cumin: ⅛ teaspoon. Adds a warm, earthy depth that complements Mexican flavors beautifully.
  • Black Pepper: A sprinkle or two, to taste.
  • Red Onion: 2 tablespoons, finely minced. Provides a sharp, fresh bite.
  • Cilantro: 1-2 tablespoons, chopped. A staple for its fresh, herbaceous aroma. If you’re one of the few who find cilantro tastes like soap, feel free to omit it entirely.
  • Garlic Clove: 1, minced. For that indispensable aromatic kick.
  • Jalapeño Pepper: 1 tablespoon, seeded and minced. Control the heat by adjusting the amount and whether you include the seeds.
  • Plum Tomato: 2 oz, diced. Adds a burst of juiciness and color.
  • Canned Black Beans: ¼ cup, drained and rinsed. For a hearty, protein-rich addition.
  • Canned Corn: ¼ cup, drained and rinsed. Adds a touch of sweetness and delightful texture.

Make It Your Own: Customization Tips

  • Amp up the Heat: Love a fiery kick? Don’t hesitate to add more minced jalapeño. For even more heat, you can leave some of the seeds in or sprinkle in a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Cilantro Lovers Rejoice: If you adore the fresh, vibrant taste of cilantro, feel free to toss in an extra tablespoon or two.
  • Spice Variations: Experiment with a dash of smoked paprika for an extra layer of flavor, or a pinch of chili powder.
  • Add More Veggies: Diced bell peppers (red or yellow) can add extra color and crunch without overpowering the avocado.
  • Creaminess Factor: For an even richer guacamole, consider adding a tiny dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt, though the avocado provides plenty of natural creaminess.

Loaded Guacamole on a tortilla chip

Beyond the Bowl: Versatile Serving Suggestions

While this Loaded Guacamole is a perfect standalone snack, its versatility truly shines when incorporated into other dishes. Of course, my absolute favorite way to enjoy it is scooped high onto crispy tortilla chips. But don’t limit yourself! It’s fantastic as a:

  • Taco Topping: A spoonful transforms any taco night into a gourmet experience.
  • Burrito Bowl Booster: Add a generous dollop to your homemade burrito bowls for extra creaminess and flavor.
  • Nachos Upgrade: Spoon over nachos for a fresh, vibrant contrast to melted cheese and savory toppings.
  • Sandwich Spread: Replace mayonnaise with this guacamole for a healthier, more flavorful sandwich or wrap.
  • Salad Enhancer: A great addition to a Southwest-inspired salad or even a simple green salad for a creamy texture and healthy fats.
  • Breakfast Side: Pair with scrambled eggs or a breakfast burrito for a nutritious start to your day.

Homemade Air Fryer Tortilla Chips: The Perfect Companion

For the ultimate Loaded Guacamole experience, skip the store-bought chips and make your own crispy, golden tortilla chips in the air fryer (as seen in our recipe photos). They’re incredibly simple to make and taste so much fresher!

  1. Start with your favorite corn tortillas. I highly recommend Mission Extra Thin Yellow Corn Tortillas; they make fantastic low-calorie and low-point chips.
  2. Lightly mist both sides of each tortilla with cooking spray.
  3. Sprinkle generously with a pinch of salt.
  4. Cut the tortillas into desired triangle shapes.
  5. Arrange the triangles in a single layer in your air fryer basket, being careful not to overcrowd. You may need to work in batches.
  6. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for about 8 minutes, but keep a close eye on them. Cooking times can vary between air fryer models.
  7. Remove them from the air fryer when they are golden brown and slightly crispy.
  8. Let them cool completely on a rack. They will crisp up further as they cool.

No Air Fryer? No Problem! Oven-Baked Chips: You can achieve similar results in a conventional oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Follow the same steps for misting, salting, and cutting the tortillas. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 8-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp.

Storage Tips to Keep Your Guacamole Green and Fresh

One of the challenges with guacamole is preventing it from browning due to oxidation. While the lime juice helps, here’s my favorite trick to keep any uneaten Loaded Guacamole looking and tasting fresh:

  1. Transfer your leftover guacamole to an airtight food storage container.
  2. Crucially, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole, ensuring there are no air bubbles trapped between the wrap and the dip. This creates a barrier that prevents exposure to air.
  3. Place the lid tightly on the container.
  4. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.

Additional Tip: Some people also like to add a thin layer of water over the top of the guacamole before sealing, then drain it off just before serving. This creates an even more effective oxygen barrier. However, the plastic wrap method typically works wonderfully for this recipe.

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cumin
  • A sprinkle or two black pepper

Instructions
